Bike Rodeo

  • Share:
Name: Bike Rodeo
Date: June 9, 2022
Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
The Victoria Police Department will have the opportunity to gift bicycles and safety gear to dozens of children throughout the community thanks to a $5,000 grant from Wal-Mart North Navarro.
These funds have enabled the department to purchase multiple bikes and safety gear to donate to Victoria’s youth through upcoming bike rodeos.
VPD is partnering with Christ’s Kitchen to host the first bike rodeo from 5 to 7 p.m. June 9 at Christ’s Kitchen, 611 E. Warren Ave.
Each child will have the opportunity to select a ticket for a bike of their choice. Ten bikes will be included in the drawing. Tickets will be drawn at 6 p.m. to announce the winner of each bike. Participants must be present to win.
The bike rodeos are a chance for kids and their parents to learn about biking safety. Kids can bring their bikes and practice skills that will help them become better bicyclists and avoid typical crashes.
The Victoria Police Department will also offer bike registrations at the event. If the bike is stolen or goes missing, the registration information will greatly increase the odds of the bike being returned to the owner.
This is not the first time Wal-Mart has partnered with VPD to help local children. In April, the department received a report that a bicycle belonging to a 10-year-old boy, Frank, was stolen from his front doorstep. The manager of Wal-Mart stepped up and donated a bicycle for the young boy. A few days later, Chief Roberto Arredondo and Officer John Turner delivered a brand-new bike to Frank.
“We are grateful for our partnership with Wal-Mart and their continued efforts to give back to our community,” Arredondo said.
Planning for additional bike rodeos has begun, and event dates will be announced in the near future.
